Results: Poll 1 - Race Preferences

Results are in, preferences are chosen, votes are cast, and all those kind of 'it's done!' sentiments.

But how did things turn out?  Let's have a quick look at the results, from most to least popular.

So, after getting horribly distracted by comics on the World of Warcraft site, here's what we have.

Elf (Blood)35 (53%)
I have to say I'm not entirely surprised about this.  Blood elves are one of the 'pretty' races, and one half of the 'pretty expansion' (Burning Crusade) so they're always popular.  But I am surprised they ranked so much higher than the other pretties.  More than half the people who voted want more blood elf pictures, 13% more than the next highest races.

You can expect a lot more sin'dorei porn in the future.  This race isn't at the top of my development list - it isn't really even on the list because I already have both male and female models developed - but I'll certainly be working on more blood elf paraphernalia (elfish clothing and buildings, mounts and so on).

Draenei; Elf (High, Night)26 (40%)
The draenei are the other half of the pretty expansion and they are, indeed, quite darn pretty.  They're also tricky little buggers to get right.  I'm still working on a draenei boy and he's proving quite problematic; whether I'll need to move into the realm of 3D sculpting or not is yet to be determined.  The girl, by contrast, I'm already pretty darn happy with.

High elves I've done nothing in particular on.  Despite their (frankly quite surprising) popularity the change from blood elf to high elf will be minimal at best.  But!  I will be working on some high elf skins very soon, so expect to see some quel'dorei to pop into view relatively soon.

Night elves are no surprise to see level with draenei.  I've already done some considerable work on them with male, female and futanari models made - but, alas, I lost both the male and futanari models when my hard drive imploded.  The female I managed to save and the male I've since recreated (he looks a little different now, but only a little); I haven't worked on the futanari model yet.

Troll11 (16%)
Ahh, trolls.  Trolls, trolls, trolls.  I admit I find it a bit confusing how people find the boys attractive.  They're huge, stooped, big-nosed and their tusks would make it impossible to kiss (and would make oral sex dangerous at best).  I've got issues with how violent people think they are when they mate, too; sure, I like a bit of rough and tumble as much as anyone but the more a female's body has its energies diverted to self-repair the less resources she has for nurturing unborn young.  While some aggression might be typical it's unlikely (at best) that mating with a troll would be anything like the equivalent of close-quarter combat that a lot of ERPers, writers and artists make it out to be.

Having said that I get the appeal of rough sex, and their girls can be quite cute.  But here's the thing: representing this species with the models I have is relatively easy for the girls - I have the female model pretty much set - but very difficult for the boys.  At least, very difficult to do convincingly.  Nonetheless I'm giving it a good go!  Expect to see experiments soon(ish).

Worgen8 (12%)
Worgen are one of the two newest races to hit the WoW scene, the other being the goblins.  Then again, they're not new at all - people have known about the worgen since before World of Warcraft started (they were in the real-time strategy game, Warcraft III), but they were never playable.  They're bestial, they're passionate, they're tragically cursed, they're capable of looking exactly like humans and, my favourite part, they're not even slightly vampires.  What's not to like?

They're hard to represent in Daz Studio, that's what.  To add to that there's little in the way of clothing that'll fit on the models I do have for them.  It's also difficult at best to represent the stooping that the boys exhibit, and the model I'm experimenting has very little in the way of breast variance for the girls.  I'll post experiments soon(ish) but while I'm not upset at the general look, I'm not at all thrilled with the relative flexibility of the model.

Human7 (10%)
Again I'm a bit surprised that other races weren't more popular than humans but, to be honest, I've always had a soft spot for this race.  My favourite Alliance characters are human.  Only 10% of people want to see more, though, so down the list of priority they go.

I have, though, made base models for them.  I wanted them to look noticeably different from the stock Victoria 4 and Michael 4 that are the Daz Studio standard female and male models, so I've fixed them up a bit.  From this point the most work I'm going to be doing on humans is some significant variation in skin tones.

GoblinOrcTauren5 (7%)
Like the worgen, the goblins have been around for ages.  Since Warcraft II, in fact.  Maybe since Warcraft I - as I've never played it I don't know if there were more than just orcs and humans in that game.  Even since the first ones chirpily declared, 'We've got explosives!' they've captured people's imaginations and there's been art and fanfics involving them for a lot longer than they've been playable.

Orcs are the polar opposite of humans in many ways - for a start they're a lot more green.  They're less conventionally attractive, too, and I've a suspicion that the five people who want to see more of them are likely long-term Horde players.  I'm actually a bit surprised there's only five votes for them.

Tauren are the big, chunky tanks of the Horde.  They came into the Warcraft games in Warcraft III and have remained popular ever since.  A lot of people don't like furry fandom, though, and...  Well, they're big ol' cow-people.  This also, coincidentally, makes them difficult to model in a way that doesn't look completely stupid.

I've made both male and female models for the goblins.  Orcs also have male and female models; I'm not happy with the neck on the male, though, as their stooping stance indicates the neck vertebrae connect to the skull at a different point than on humans.  The tauren I'm experimenting with still, and I'm not enjoying what I'm coming up with.

DwarfGnome4 (6%)
How arrre ya?  The pseudo-Scottish dwarves have long been maligned for being shortish, stocky and, according to many, outright boring.  I personally think that reputation is hugely undeserving as many traditional artists have proven.  I'm glad to see they didn't (quite) get shoved to the bottom of the pile as I expected them to but there's no surprise both they and their gnomish allies got the, ahaha, short end of the stick.  I've done male and female models for these and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.

The gnomes are brilliant, exciting, cute and very short.  Many also find them unrelentingly irritating - I'm not one of them but I do see where that attitude comes from.  More importantly, though, a lot of people see them as being very childlike and that can be a problem.  Maybe people just don't like them; maybe they're scared of saying 'I want to see gnomes fucking' because they don't want to be branded paedophiles.  Both are valid concerns.

However: I see this race as a distinct species.  I don't see them as short humans.  I definitely don't see them as young humans and I think that the way the female models are portrayed in the actual game is doing nothing to help the matter.  I make my gnome girls curvy.  They are obviously adults - gnomes actually live a lot longer than humans - and I've gone out of my way to make them look like gnomes as I see them, not children.

For the record I don't support, condone or accept child pornography or paedophilia.  If you're looking for those things, don't come here.  In fact don't just go away - go away and dive under a passing bus.  Or at the very least get yourself committed so you can get full-time, intensive mental help.  Paedophilia is a sickness.  Way yuck.

Forsaken2 (3%)
Speaking of way yuck, how do people feel about necrophilia?  I'm not a fan.  It's another sickness.  However I also don't see the undead as being dead.  Dead things can't consent.  Undead things can (though probably shouldn't).  I've mucked about with some models for Forsaken and have settled on one for the female but, in all honesty, I'm unlikely to ever make porn with her and certainly I won't be making a habit of it.

Other (WoW, non-WoW)1 (1%)
Now, here's a pair of sore points.  Two people voted for Other, both WoW and non-WoW, and unless someone changed their vote during the voting period I'd say they were two different people as the votes went up separately (one of them very recently).

However I've no idea what they want to see.  Can those folks (and any others who came in late) stick in some comments here and let me know?

  1. I think it is easy to see what happened (at least, what I think happened). Those races we play in WOW got the votes for, at least for those characters we have a certain affinity for.
I personally, have at least one of each race. Not all of them are really that close to my heart.
And as I told you in skype, my dear scott. While I didn't vote for other (non-WOW), I'd like to see some hot Star Wars.
